- Fanon: Most fans assume that a throwaway line Prickly gives in Recess: School's Out about Phillium Benedict getting fired as Secretary of Education for trying to impose the same anti-recess plan he wanted to put on Third Street back in the 60's is actually referring to this episode.
- Fridge Brilliance: The Secretary of Education states that a SAL 9000 computer has picked Third Street "completely at random." It is more likely that it decided to take some petty revenge.
- Harsher in Hindsight:
- Even though this episode involves Third Street School's reactions towards the elimination of recess, the title "Recess is Canceled" seems... harsh now.
- Not to mention that, later on, Recess: School's Out would revolve around Phillium Benedict trying to do just that.
- Values Resonance: Even today, whether recess is good for elementary-school children or a waste of valuable time still arouses heated debate. Fortunately, plenty of research shows that at least 20 minutes of recess per day is beneficial for students, whereas kids who don't get recess are less likely to actually learn and more likely to fidget. And the fact that people like The Mysterious Mr. Enter have been criticizing the school system for over-relying on standardized tests as a means of determining the students' chances of future success makes this episode very much Truth in Television.
