YMMV / Rebirth of Mothra

• Anvilicious: This quite possibly out anvils Godzilla vs. Hedorah with their environmental message! Even the person part of the logging company gets in on the action with comments on his disapproval of wasted paper and his later horror at deforestation.
• Awesome Moments: Mothra Leo's fight with Desghidora, if you can really call it a "fight". Mothra Leo pretty much completely wipes the floor with him in what can only be described as a Curb-Stomp Battle.
• Awesome Music: Easily one of the best aspects of the film is the music score, which is, for the most part, very good.
• Broken Base: Mothra Leo is generally a well-liked kaiju among the fans. Most of them thought it was okay for Leo to be depicted as a male Mothra since he is a spin-off character and for appealing to a younger audience, especially for the boys. Some fans feel that the idea of a male Mothra is a terrible idea since Mothra is always known to be a female kaiju in most Toho films. In the modern fandom, some Trans Audience Interpretation may also be involved, with Leo being interpreted as transmasc.
• Narm/Nightmare Retardant: Desghidorah may look scary, but his roars are some obviously modified stock elephant trumpets, which may take away the menacing factor for some.
• So Bad, It's Good: For most people the hamfisted environmental message and some of the kid-focused plot can make this film rather entertainingly bad.
• Tear Jerker: Mothra's death scene is just heartbreaking, after carrying Mothra Leo to safety in the sea following a crushing fatal loss to Desghidorah she slowly gives up on surviving even as her son and the Elias try to encourage her in vain, the sight of her dead body sinking into the depths of the sea along with the melancholic music playing can really tug at the heartstrings of her fans and others.
