YMMV / Raine Dog

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: One reviewer suggested that Raine is actually trolling the audience by acting out the characteristics of the most annoying liberal stereotypes in order to piss off everyone she meets to the point where they become avid followers of Ayn Rand. (It was a civil rights metaphor published around the time the author came out as trans...in 2008, which likely factored into most of the less-charitable interpretations of the comic. Officially, it was conceived from the Fridge Horror of another comic where sentient furries were treated like pets with all that entails; Raine Dog takes it to its logical extreme.)
  • Fan Fic Fuel: What happened to Jeff after Raine got sent away? Did he ever tell his parents? How did they react?
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: The strip is mostly known nowadays for its alleged bestiality involving an underage boy and a dog kissing in bed (which leads to the dog being spayed) than anything else that happens in it.
  • Quirky Work: Dana has admitted that she was high on cold medicine when she came up with the idea.
  • Squick: Context or no, it's difficult to not be grossed out by this infamous page involving a young boy (who appears to be naked, or at least shirtless) apparently flirting with Raine and kissing her.
  • Tear Jerker: In spite of the infamy, the ending of "kissing strip", in which Raine is basically mutilated in the form of being spayed, is rather upsetting.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Many agree that a Fantastic Racism story that deconstructs the concept of funny animals who live alongside people is a very fascinating idea that could've worked great had Dana properly thought the story out instead of making it up as she went along.
