• Overshadowed by Controversy:
  • The movie is more well known for its incredibly bizarre behind the scenes production ^note  Kim Jong-il ordered for the film's director and his wife to be kidnapped and forced to make several films for him than it is about its actual quality.
  • The film was poised to have massive international appeal, but at every film festival it was shown it was written off as just more North Korean propaganda directed by a traitor. Its reputation would soften as the years went on, especially after resentment for the director in his home country lessened.
• Ugly Cute: Pulgasari is a giant horned reptile, yet he's strangely adorable, mainly because of his eyes that humanize him a bit. His baby version is even more adorable.
