  • When the Pretty All Friends merchandise line was launched, a collaborating company produced a line of body pillow covers featuring Aira, Mia, Naru, Laala, and Yui in swimsuits and posing suggestively, which was planned to be sold exclusively at Comic Market (where a lot of adult fans attend). This sparked debates about sexualizing girls from shows aimed at little girls, to the point where the creators decided to sell them online instead of at Comic Market. Eventually, Tatsunoko recalled the body pillow covers altogether.
  • Artwork depicting MARs in Taisho-era outfits spawned outrage in the South Korean fan community due to the events of World War II.
• Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Aside from Japan, the series is extremely popular in South Korea due to the anime being partly produced by South Korea. In addition, Dear My Future had a supporting cast of South Korean characters that were portrayed positively in the midst of backlash from the Hallyu wave in 2012 (due to the Japanese public getting tired of Korean Pop Music and, especially, the Dokdo Islands dispute).
• Unexpected Character: Hiro Hayami from Pretty Rhythm: Rainbow Live becoming a playable character in the Nintendo 3DS PriPara & Pretty Rhythm: PriPara de Tsukaeru Oshare Item 1450! came out of nowhere and he is the first male character to become playable in the midst of an all-female cast.
