YMMV / Precure Meet The Dream Traveler

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • It's been suggested that Blaze Akechi is either just a scrawny cosplayer with no power at all, or someone who was kicked out of his own world for being annoying but never realized it, instead of the badass the author claims he is.
    • Due to some very dark implications in the text and characterization, it's been theorized that Siren is not actually the "loving little sister" that the author writes her as, but is actually a victim of abuse at the hands of her Big Brother Bully, and is only acting the part of a sweet little sister so he won't hurt her or her friends. By extension, Blaze has also been speculated to be a domestic abuser.
    • Shadow "Blaze" Akechi from the third fic is already speculated to be a domestic abuser, stalker, and, once again due to some very dark implications, a child predator who is grooming Mana to be his girlfriend.
  • Ass Pull: Oh, Blaze absorbs a lot of Bad Energy that causes a Superpowered Evil Side that can't differentiate between friend and foe? No worries, just pull out some power control pills that were never mentioned beforehand. And that's just one among many...
  • Canon Defilement:
    • Blaze manages to defeat three blue-nosed Akanbes without using Rainbow Healing. Rainbow Healing is established in canon as being required to defeat blue-nosed Akanbes which are invincible otherwise.
    • Blaze's "sister" is Siren, somehow, despite her being a cat-like fairy and him being a self-proclaimed super human.
  • Designated Hero: Blaze and Shadow are these in so many ways.
    • Both are grown men of at least 21 and 22, respectively, who beat down on whomever they feel like, including the other Precures. Both are described as being allies of the Precure (who are only 14 years old).
    • Both repeatedly break into Middle Schools, bringing weapons with them even when nothing bad is happening.
    • Both are in one-sided relationships with underage (read: 14-year-old) girls, whom they "kiss passionately" toward the end of each fic.
    • Both of them get through the Pretty Cure Graveyard by stealing the souls of the Pretty Cures, sealing them in cards, and then forcing them to fight as their personal army. Some of them, such as the Dark Pretty Cure 5, are already dead, and it is not known what happens to them after their cards are expended.
    • Blaze attacks, insults, and bullies all villains simply because they're on the side of evil while stealing Awesome Moments from the canon Cures (particularly Cure Melody, Cure Beauty, and Cure Lovely). He does this even if said villains are Brainwashed and Crazy.
    • Blaze repeatedly and verbally attacks AND abuses Siren despite knowing that she is Brainwashed and Crazy and (in story) possibly his sister. This goes on for 10 chapters straight.
    • Shadow lives in the same household as Mana (even living in a room next to hers). He is at least 22 in the fic while she's 14. The entire romance honestly comes across as a sexual predator and his victim, or child-grooming.
    • Shadow in particular frequently threatens to murder 12-year-old Regina in gruesome manners, such as melting her face off and then desecrating her body. He succeeds in impaling her in the stomach with his sword and pinning her down to twist the blade several times, despite her (and Mana, whom he is paired with) crying and pleading for him to stop, and near the finale, beats her nearly to death. He is well aware she is brainwashed, but outright states he doesn't care; because she's the daughter of the villain, she deserves to die and go straight to Hell. Said villain, King Jikochuu, is himself Brainwashed and Crazy.
    • In the Backstory, Shadow left Trump Kingdom around the time it was attacked. When he returned, he defeated several Jikochuus and claimed to have fought Regina even though she had yet to be truly born by then. The Jikochuus were never said to have been purified; they were simply defeated (read: destroyed), which means there would be people who are now empty husks. In short, he killed innocent people and is still being treated as the perfect hero for it.
    • Shadow constantly takes pictures and makes recordings of 10-year-old Aguri despite her insistence that he stop AND him not having permission. He just smirks and keeps doing it, calling the pictures/recordings "his treasure". He later does it with Aguri's friend Eru, with the same results. On the subject of Aguri, Shadow later threatens to set her on fire in front of Mana's class, simply because she told them all to leave Mana alone and let her rest when she was sick. The chapter even ends with Aguri apologizing to Shadow for "causing trouble."
    • In the same chapter when Shadow threatens to burn Aguri, Shadow expresses a blatant disregard for Mana's well-being. In it, Mana has collapsed from exhaustion and has to spend time recovering. Aguri insists on keeping the students from asking her for her help, but Shadow insists on her being allowed to help instead. As Aguri is explaining what can happen to Mana if she does try to help in her condition, Shadow's responses are "Yeah. And?", "Yeah. So?", and to call her immature for trying to get Mana the rest she needs. He's such a kind and caring guy, people!
    • Both of them have a disturbing tendency toward Murder Is the Best Solution and Violence is the Only Option, never mind that Pretty Cure is known to have a lot of redemption for villains and not very many get Killed Off for Real.
    • Blaze and Shadow double team Phantom and steal Cure Honey's Moment of Awesome while beating the Pretty Cure Hunter almost to death. Then, when Phantom reverts back to being Phanphan, the two of them flat out bully and belittle him. They then bully Cure Honey when she calls them out, even after she has agreed with their statements.
    • They tell an old lady she'll die alone and Shadow chokes her pet bird while threatening to set it on fire for the horrible crime of pecking Hime on the head.
    • Blaze and Shadow both insult and mock Madame Momere. The latter then ups the ante and outright murders her simply because her fate was unknown at the end of Happiness Charge.
    • They bully Yuko for her love of food/cooking; calling her a "glutton," rolling their eyes and scoffing when she talks about food being love, they call her "please be delicious" wish 'voodoo crap' and hit Megumi when she mimics this. And despite this, Shadow still demands Yuko cook for him to 'make up for' her taking care of Phantom when the latter was injured.
    • Shadow is not against shooting his gun at the Cures to get their attention; notably seen when he shoots Honey's microphone, interrupting her song meant to power up the others and calm the monster.
    • They bully another ten-year-old, Tsumugi from the Happiness Charge movie, and are unsympathetic to the fact she is being used by an adult male villain.
    • They shove in on Lovely's Moment of Awesome against Red in the finale while calling him a demon and, mockingly, "Lucifer".
    • Blaze and Shadow both have a tendency to treat everyone they fight as villains, even if said opponent is clearly good. Melan from the Doki Doki rewrite is a standout example since Shadow tells her "don't mess with us, reptile," and continues to boast about his strength. Even though Melan is Cure Empress' fairy companion, has been guarding an important artifact for 10,000 years, AND is simply testing the Cures to see if they're worthy of receiving the artifact! Our hero, ladies and gentlemen.
    • And despite all of these actions, Xantrax-42 claims Blaze and Shadow are pure and good-hearted heroes, and the fics take their side in everything. It really says something when a reviewer considers some of the viler Pretty Cure villains, such as Joker, to be saints when compared to these two.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • So Bad, It's Good: The stories are all Script Fics, the English is horrible, and there is virtually no tension or emotion in the narration whatsoever except in the passages Xantrax-42 plagiarized to write it. The only things that are any good are the cheesy one-liners and nicknames the Gary Stus shout every now and then, and even those stop being funny after a short while.
