YMMV / Power Pete

Go To

  • Demonic Spiders:
    • Triceratops Tom. He likes to hide in shrubbery, waiting for Pete to draw close before charging forward with almost no warning. It's also incredibly difficult to hit him while he's charging, and he's immune to most of Pete's weapons, meaning the only real way to deal with them is to memorize their locations, and goad them into charging so they can be safely passed, since they can't move up or down.
    • Lemon Drops. Damaging them with any weapon causes them to shoot lemon juice in eight directions. They also travel in groups, and while they fortunately won't actively target Pete unlike other foes, trying to fight your way out of a room filled with them may result in large amounts of lemon juice shooting from every direction, resulting in nigh-unavoidable damage.
    • Witches. They move a lot faster than most enemies, travel in large gangs, and can transform Pete into a frog upon contact. While transformed, Pete can't use his weapons, and his movement is slowed to a crawl. If he collides with them again (or if another enemy attacks him), he takes damage as normal.
    • Giant Brothers. Unlike most of the jumping enemies in the game, these guys come with a nasty Shockwave Stomp that can be very difficult to avoid, especially if more than one is nearby (which, more often than not, there will be).
    • Spinning Tops, one of the nastiest enemies in the game. They chase Pete down at high speed, have a lot of health, are immune to most of his weapons, and even respawn after being defeated.
  • Game-Breaker:
    • The Summer Fun Backyard Flamethrower is an incredible weapon for crowd control, able to mow through groups of weaker enemies with ease. Even better, it's available right from the start and ammo is common. However, it chews through ammo fairly quickly, its range isn't the best, and the strongest toys are immune to it. The Toothpaste Gun found from the second department onwards is a similar, albeit slightly less effective alternative.
    • Exploding Cakes could very well be the most broken weapon in the game. They're powerful enough to kill nearly any enemy in one hit (even the above-mentioned Spinning Tops), and have a wide area-of-effect, allowing you to wipe out entire groups of enemies with one well-aimed cake. Better still, they're a fairly common weapon drop starting in Candy Cane Lane, and no enemy in the game is immune to them. The only drawbacks are that their range is very short and an ammo pickup will only give you 20 cakes.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The Game Over screen. The department store's shelves are riddled with bullet holes, chewed gum, and suction cup darts (apparently from Pete's weapons), and a nuclear explosion can be seen going off in the background as Pete himself lies dead on the ground. An ominous tune filled with maniacal laughter plays on this screen to really hammer it home that Pete's mission has ended in failure.
