The 1981 film:
- Awesome Music: The spine-tingling score by Andrzej Korzyński, which blends neon-tinged disco-style electronics with woozy, stark orchestral sections to terrifying effect.
- Everyone Is Jesus in Purgatory: One would be tempted to think that the Eldritch Abomination Anna is sleeping with is The Antichrist.
- Narm: It's sometimes hard to take the overly literate dialogue and the over-the-top acting too seriously.
- Signature Scene: Anna's enormous mental breakdown in the train station, shown in a single shot with no cuts.
- Squick:
- Anna having sex with a Cthulhu-esque Eldritch Abomination.
- The scene where Anna miscarries at the train station, screaming while spewing blood and pus from multiple orifices.
- Visual Effects of Awesome: Squick aside, Carlo Rambaldi's creature effects are very impressive, and hold up well even today.
