YMMV / Positively Dreadful

Go To

  • Awesome Art: The title-cards by both Dr. Crafty and later Rinlockhart are very appealing and help set the tone for each episode.
    • Crafty's were usually simple, with the characters front and centre, with a distinct comedic style to them.
    • Rinlockhart's title-cards tend to be more experimental, often depicting a whole scene, with more mood and atmosphere.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment:
    • Evil Sideburns breathing fire after calling himself the Devil.
    • Nedburns and Berghani warping and distorting as they laugh at a lame joke.
  • Broken Base: According to comments, Sideburns is either underrated and deserving of more attention, or cringe inducing and difficult to watch. His most popular review also being one of his choppiest doesn't help.
  • Growing the Beard: While still a bit rough in many ways, The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge is a lot quicker and snappier with its jokes, and emphasises comedy more than being informative, which most future videos have tried to follow on with.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: His Positively Quick on the official Coraline tie in website has him praise it's design and recommend that people check it out. The website has since been taken down and no longer exists, with the video being one of the only ways to experience it.
  • Heartwarming Moments: As of this writing, the Good half of the inFAMOUS 2 video has more views than he Evil half.
    • The photo montage of his and Berghani's vacation to the Northern Kremisphere.
      • The fact that he and Berghani are close enough friends to meet up in person at all.
    • Berghani's (admittedly creepy) drawing of himself and Sideburns, marked friends. Sideburns even puts it on his fridge. note
  • Most Wonderful Sound: Jason Voorhees’ friendly and calming voice, as supplied by Karpinarmic.
  • Narm: Any time Sideburns tries to act dramatic, whether in earnest, or as build up to a joke. His delivery is always a little too forced.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • The Title-Card for Coraline: The Game features Sideburns hurrying Coraline to safety through a dark forest, while a figure watches on from so far in the distance, you might not see them straight away.
    • Berghani tells a lame joke, which he and Sideburns' then laugh at so hard they cause themselves to distort disturbingly, leave us with this message.
    • And later, this.
  • Nightmare Retardant: While cheap, the War Father costume concept isn’t bad. It’s just that the actor’s head is too large for the mask.
  • Special Effects Failure: Most attempts at special effects are quite poor, or obviously stock. In particular, he has some difficulty editing in explosion effects.
    • The close up on Sideburns' email to Berghani is just a static image while Sideburns is clearly still typing away.
  • Squick: Deadpool: Bi-Annual ends with the promise that Sideburns will eat his own beard. The next video, Convergence Tie-Ins opens with him beardless, sputtering, and putting away a bottle of hot sauce.
    • Vomiting up blood after getting a little too frustrated with War of the Monsters. And if not that, the noise he makes while doing it.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Coraline: The Game featured a Quick Time Events shockingly similar to the segment Nedburns' did as a joke in his original Coraline review. This amazing coincedence is left with a simple 'this seems familiar'. Nedburns' himself admits this was a wasted oppertunity.
  • What the Hell, Costuming Department?: The Guardian from ‘’The St. Kilda Experiment’’ is clearly wearing regular clothes under his cape (a towel).
