YMMV / Pokémon: Secrets of the Jungle

• Complete Monster: Dr. Zed is a cruel, egomaniacal scientist seeking the healing power within the Sacred Tree of the Zarude, all to glorify his own ego. With no regard to any life, human or Pokémon, but his own, Dr. Zed murdered his colleagues Chrom and Phossa Molybden by running them off the road, barely missing their infant son Al in the process and cutting the baby off from human civilization for ten years. When he learns Al survived years later, Zed tracks him to the Sacred Tree, lays waste to the forest, and attempts to desolate the entire colony of Zarude so he can rip the healing power right from its source.
• Moral Event Horizon: In the past, Dr. Zed ran Koko's parents off the road, getting them into a flaming, potentially fatal vehicle accident. When he has a clear chance to rescue them from the burning car wreckage, Zed instead simply takes the spring water sample he'd been after and abandons them both to die in a fiery explosion. Koko is left orphaned and alone in the jungle thanks to this man's callousness.
• Older Than They Think: The concept of a human living in the wild with Pokémon was briefly touched on in previous installments:
  • Pokémon: The Original Series had "The Kangaskhan Kid", where the titular character was raised by a group of wild Kangaskhan in the Safari Zone.
  • Pokémon Adventures had Sapphire, the manga’s version of May, who grew up in the wild and debuted wearing a Garden Garment.
  • Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl Adventure!'s protagonist, Hareta, was also raised by Pokémon for most of his childhood, though he's more adjusted to civilization than Koko.
• Tear Jerker: Koko confronting Zarude about not telling him about being human, they are both upset over the argument.
