- Angst? What Angst?: It doesn’t take Squirtle long to get over the crisis of being turned into a Pokémon. He finds he can now swim when he falls into the water in the Team Base, and declares being a Pokémon to be not half-bad.
- Alternative Character Interpretation: Was buying the Kecleon brothers out of all their stock a deliberate attempt by Team Meanies to sabotage the Go-Getters, or simply because they wanted everything they could get for their mission? (Gengar depleting the Go-Getters' inventory via "Arbok" would suggest the former)
- Awesome Music: The renditions of tracks from the games.
- Fridge Horror:
- When they first meet and Squirtle learns he’s a Pokémon now, Charmander remarks, "Boy, that’ll wake you up." And in the next scene (besides the introduction), Squirtle is sleeping in the Team Base before waking up. What, did Charmander conk him out and drag him there?!
- Squirtle is never asked if he wants to be on the team, yet Charmander just straight up tosses him a badge and tells him he’s part of them now. Is he taking advantage of the fact that Squirtle has lost his memory?
- What would have become of Pichu if the Go-Getters hadn't discovered him?
- Fridge Logic:
- The Kecleon brothers say that they "love seeing old customers" when the Go-Getters show up, yet this is their first mission.
- If the Go-Getters can split up a single Oran Berry into three pieces and give one piece to each of the Meanies to bring them back to their senses, why couldn't they have just given Pichu a small part of a single Oran Berry to conserve resources?
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The special could have started its own spinoff story arc of the Squirtle and his friends rescuing Pokémon while he tries to find a way to become human again. Instead, it was a one-off story with no follow-up.
