• Memetic Mutation: James' lines "Put those women in their place" and "Let's blow those whining women back to the dark ages where they belong" became widely spread amongst social media users joking about how "based" James is for not taking crap from women and spitting on chivalry.
• Strawman Has a Point:
  • While their fight evolves into both sides being unreasonable, Ash and May's arguing starts because Ash gets angry at May for not getting ready to go quick enough for his liking, which is played as his usual impatience just turned up. However, he, Brock, and Max were all ready to go while she hadn't even finished packing her stuff up (and she randomly stopped to check herself in a mirror), meaning she was holding the whole group up. Of course, by the time they fight Oscar and Andi, it's escalated to them just stubbornly yelling at each other regardless.
  • In the same vein, Ash and May arguing about who's fault it was that they lost to Oscar and Andi. We're supposed to think both of them were at fault but ultimately, May is the one who screws up Ash's battling with Ember first blocking Corphish's Bubble Beam from hitting Nidoking, then Skitty freezing Corphish with Blizzard and then damaging Corphish even further with her attempts to thaw Corphish out. While Corphish's bad temperment doesn't help matters when he does eventually get thawed out, there is a legitimate argument to be made that Ash would have had a better chance beating Oscar and Andi alone than with May as his partner.
