• Hilarious in Hindsight: Janet, who inspired May to follow her career as a Pokemon coordinator, is voiced in Japanese by none other than Megumi Toyoguchi, who would get to voice Dawn in the following series. Not only would Dawn replace May as the main female lead for that season, but she would get to defeat May in the Wallace Cup in her reappearance in the Diamond and Pearl series, who would be her last proper appearance in the anime outside brief cameos, meaning that May's onscreen coordinator streak began and ended with two different people with the same voice.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Janet and to a lesser extent Chaz. Despite the fact they are both excellent coordinators and could have been good rivals for May in the future (with Janet herself being the one who sparked May's interest in contests), they are never seen again in a main role beyond this episode, and their following appearances are brief, silent cameos. Even worse, in this episode Janet wins her third ribbon, meaning she only had to win two more to participate in Hoenn's Grand Festival, so she at least could have been a participant of the event.
