• Broken Base: The episode is polarizing over the fact that Grookey went to Goh instead of Ash when he already had Sobble and Cinderace, making it the first time Ash didn't gain any members of a region's starter trio. Fans are either fine with it because Ash already had six Pokemon and don't think he needed more and being with Goh would give Grookey a lot of screentime, or despise it because they wish Ash had more than six Pokemon, don't like the fact that Goh ended up with all three starters as an extension of a dislike of Goh catching Pokemon that the fanbase wish Ash would have caught, and think that Grookey would just be a cute Pokemon carried about by Goh instead of something else, something that the (Western) fanbase doesn't particularly like.
