YMMV / Pokémon S1E49 "So Near, Yet So Farfetch'd"

Go To

  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Keith's Farfetch'd secretly being a strong, capable battler came off as silly since Farfetch'd is infamously weak and useless in battle... in Gen 1. Time would slowly, but surely be kinder to Farfetch'd, and would not only give it its own exclusive held item to bump up its critical hit ratio, but also beef up its Attack stat to respectable levels. And that's not even going into the introduction of the powerful Galarian Farfetch'd/Sirfetch'd family in Sword and Shield.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: We're supposed to sympathize with Keith since his belief that Farfetch'd is weak is what leads him to steal other people's Pokemon. However, his downright smug sense of satisfaction when it comes to tricking and stealing people's prized companions with no regard for their feelings makes it hard to feel bad for him. Not helping his case is that his motivation seems to come from sheer laziness, because him not knowing how strong his Farfetch'd really was makes it seem like he couldn't be bothered to even battle with it and just assumed it was a wimp.
