- Angst? What Angst?: Ash takes his death surprisingly well. He goes on to have fun flying around and pranking Brock and Misty before letting his spirit go back in his body.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: The Gastly family were already popular, but the prankster trio living in Pokémon Tower are particularly beloved due to their hilarious slapstick antics and friendly personalities. Plenty of fans were disappointed when Haunter left Ash's party at the end of the following episode.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: When Ash is unimpressed with Gengar and Haunter's slapstick routine, there's a visual gag where they let themselves be buried in snow and ice in a disappointed funk. When Ash would end up catching a Gengar during the Journeys season of the anime, one of its moves would be Ice Punch, weaponizing ice instead of being (symbolically) buried in it.
- Memetic Psychopath: Ash dropping Misty from a hundred feet in the air with only Brock to break her fall has inspired tons of jokes of Ash being a dangerous attempted murderer by the fandom.
