YMMV / Playmobil Figures

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: The Series 2 Mummy is often labeled by fans as "Injured Mummy", since it uses hospital bandages for its wrappings. It could also be interpreted as a horribly injured patient in a full-body cast, or a robbed mummy, since it's not completely wrapped up, as if tomb robbers found it and took its valuables.
    • The Series 5 Coal Miner could be interpreted as an axe murderer, since the axe piece he's given is not suited for mining.
  • Broken Base: The customization. Is it a nice answer to the stuck-together figures, or does it now highlight the fact that the figures in sets still can't be taken apart? And do Playmobil bank on the customization selling the figures more than making unique characters? And what about the different skin tones and skinny body types which limit customization even further?
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Historical characters and the cultural characters the theme likes to release.
  • Follow the Leader: Playmobil's response to the LEGO Minifigures theme. Several of the characters are similar, such as the black-eyed boxer, and blue ice skater.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Series 8 contains a Confederate soldier. By the time it was released in the United States, there had just been a controversy about the Confederate flag's connotations, leading to the flag being taken down.
  • The Scrappy: Characters with recycled concepts or recycled prints from preexisting sets. The Egyptian Queen in Series 6 is a glaring redesign of the Egyptian Queen in Series 2. Fans have also gotten tired of the amounts of princesses, knights, fairies, and gladiators in the theme. Sometimes it can be done well and be an improvement, like the Series 8 Witch over the Series 1 version, but most of the time recycled concepts don't stick out or work well. Series 12 is a bad case of this, as the majority of the figures are blatant rereleases, barely-changed rereleases, or palette swaps of older figures.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: While this isn't the first time one has been made, the Series 1 Executioner attracted a lot of attention for being especially macabre among Playmobil's characters.
