YMMV / Plague Tree

  • Archive Panic: If you look at the changelog, you'll find that the game has received over 40 patches, with almost every single one adding some kind of feature, many of which are fleshed-out (especially post-v.0.6). It's a candidate for the longest TMT game in existence.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: While it's a game made during a worldwide pandemic that has some pretty dark themes related to it (two of the third-row layers focus on symptoms and death), once you get to the fatality layer, the sheer power of the virus (which includes many orders of magnitude more cases and deaths than people on Earth) is so improbable that it becomes darkly impressive/humorous. The funny achievement names help prevent the mood from becoming too morbid as well.
  • Difficulty Spike: Most of the early game has layers that are standard length and aren't too difficult to progress through efficiently. Then fatality has 10 tabs (with about 7 tabs worth of content to get through), a mechanic that sets casualty/min gain based on best casualty/min upon reset leading to more active gameplay for optimal performance, and more noticeable timewalls. The layers only get more complex and longer from here.
  • That One Level:
    • The space between 39 and 40 infecters is the hardest part up to that point. You have to get 2,423 infected infections, then reset all Infections to build up 3e286 or so infectious diseases thanks to Infected Infectious, then wait a while until uncoaters build up with the correct Infection setup. It's a Guide Dang It! that takes a while even if you know what to do.
    • Getting your first Anti-Vaxxer requires a lot (to repeat: a lot) of attempts at getting a winning streak of bets on green, which only have a 25% chance to win. Save Scumming by exporting and importing the save repeatedly helps a ton, but it can get tedious when you need to reach 1e270,000,000 Anti-Maskers and each win multiplies the reward by 1e5,000,000 or so. You also need to remember to buy AM Boosters whenever possible, otherwise the grind will be even more painful.
    • The bit when your Adverse Vaccines challenge completions are 2/1/0 can be really hard to get past. You need to grind Adverse Vaxxers and have a good setup for the challenge (this requires disabling some less useful upgrades), but it still takes a while and can be really difficult to figure out.
    • Any grind for an UnBoosted Virus milestone that relies on best reset time can range from tough to maddening, especially the 3-minute and 1-minute ones. Both of them force you to make an efficient route to get the US upgrades (plus remember which are in Main and which are in tRNA), severe symptoms, tRNA buyables, and mutations, while still actually having enough UnBoosted Viruses and their upgrades as well as Anti-Boosters to actually have the ability to make it. Also, if your device is slow to the point of causing noticeable lag, it's gonna make things that much harder.
