YMMV / Phantasy Star Zero

  • Awesome Music:
    • 'IDOLA' The Devil's Shadow, the final boss BGM is just amazing. It's a crime the OST doesn't have a remix of it (Or any boss' theme outside Octo Diablo). At least the final area's themes have remixes.
    • Reve's theme is pretty damn awesome, and whenever you hear it you know that you're in for either a massive revelation or a serious buttkicking. Or both.
  • Demonic Spiders:
    • Arkzeins, dear God, Arkzeins. Their homing missiles can One-Hit Kill characters on higher difficulties unless blocked by a shield or dodged—and even then the missiles can still circle around and hit from behind. Arkzeins move by performing sliding attacks, which tends to desync their position in multiplayer online sessions, making to harder to coordinate an assault on them. Oh, and sometimes two of them spawn at once. Thank God that Arkzeins and Finjers don't spawn the same time ...
    • Phobos and Zaphobos. They can take huge amounts of damage, all their attacks do enough damage to kill a weaker character in two hits at best even on Normal, they have a massive area effect on all their attacks, they can throw their swords like boomerangs of death, they can and will keep smacking you around while their sword is off doing other things... and they almost always spawn in groups of two or three in very small rooms.
  • Fridge Horror: Given the implications in the story, Coral being the origin of the Pioneer ships in Phantasy Star Online means Dark Falz as an entity is spread across galaxies or even the universe, either actively hunting down civilizations to corrupt and destroy, or biding its time in the cases where it was defeated or sealed before to kill whoever stumbles upon that fragment. And it will never stop.
  • Goddamned Bats: Literally. Batts and Bullbats in the Makara Ruins will drive you MAD. They spawn in swarms, usually large ones, and almost always in combination of enemies who can hit you quite hard. They move fast, are hard to hit even with guns and techniques, and they can and WILL confuse you repeatedly.
  • Good Bad Bugs: If you cast your Photon Blast during Mother Trinity's death animation, the game believes you're still in the Photon Blast animation during the Dark Falz fight, thus making you completely invincible.
  • That One Boss: Humilias is powered by a fuel mix made from Scape Dolls and your blood, sweat, and tears. All his attacks are as followed:
    • His main laser is a freeze beam. If you get hit by this, unless you have a unit that prevents freezing, you will be a sitting duck. You need to roll away before you get shot, but the spread can be murder at longer ranges. The best place to be when he fires, damningly enough, is below or behind him, where he can't aim.
    • His sub laser is a slow beam. It will be a pain to dodge much of anything while this is in effect, so try to roll away or you will regret it in short order. This is introduced midway through the fight, but he fires it right after the freeze beam.
    • He also can combine his weapons into a laser sword for a single slash if you get hit by either beam. If you are still frozen when this goes off, you are taking a LOT of damage, and there is nothing you can do about it.
    • He also has a punch attack that's used as crowd control. He may use it if he doesn't get you with his lasers. It hurts as much as the sword.
    • He is also a bipartite robot, and can split into his two halves. He's completely invincible until he recombines, and he can still hurt you.
    • He can also arm the floor with a variety of traps that all hurt like your mother, and you better not color in all the panels if you know what's good for you. Red is pure damage, orange confuses - CASTs, keep your Sol Atomizers handy, because confusion is annoying. He can use this in tandem with his regular attacks, which is a source of rage on its own.
    • Finally, as one last "screw you", when he dies his upper half drives around uncontrollably while exploding, and it still hurts a ton.
