- Awesome Music: The whole score to the Broadway production is great, but special shout-out to "Mermaid Outta Me", a hilarious vaudevillian act opener.
- Evil Is Cool: As ridiculous and flamboyant as he may be, Black Stache proves himself to be a genuine threat through dastardly planning and fighting prowess.
- Ho Yay: Black Stache is no stranger to homoerotic undertones, sharing them with Smee, Aster, and Peter.
- Love to Hate: Black Stache may a knowingly ruthless pirate, but his hilariously hammy antics are such a riot that he easily steals the show. Especially when he's played by Christian Borle.
- Signature Scene: Black Stache losing his hand and responding with a series of Big "OMG"s.
- Visual Effects of Awesome: The Broadway production featured a minimalistic set, but the use of props, actors, and lighting throughout made for an incredible and diverse visual experience.
