YMMV / Penny's Big Breakaway

• Alternative Character Interpretation: Was Judge Rufus really going to snap Yo-Yo's string and remove its magical abilities because he saw it as a destructive threat to the kingdom? Or did he just make it seem like he was going to to give Penny a Secret Test of Character and see if she would be willing to let her partner be thrown under the bus just so that she could achieve fame for herself as a criminal would do? Though he does call the penguins to the room to go after her when she swipes Yo-Yo back and gives up her chance to perform to save him, he also looks thoughtful after she actually leaves the room and draws a question mark under her page in the Book of Law that had previously deemed her a felon in contrast to his supposed anger of her being one a few seconds earlier. Plus, after she finishes her performance with Eddie and Taboo and reunites the two of them, he actually doesn’t seem to hold any resentment for the earlier incident at all, lowering both her and Yo-Yo’s punishment to just “One Whirling Wafer's worth” of community service and even refers to her not as "Miss Felon", but as "Miss Demeanor" in an almost joking manner.
• Awesome Art: The game's Bauhaus-inspired art direction is incredibly colorful, vibrant, and gorgeous to look at, with many favorably comparing it to Sonic CD and Knuckles Chaotix.
• Demonic Spiders: The penguin guards can be annoying to deal with for players, as they will chase after Penny in large hordes and latch onto her if they reach her, which slows down her movement (unless she quickly gets them off of her by swinging her yo-yo) and makes it easy for them to capture her. They also can't be hurt by Penny's yo-yo (just stunned), so most of the time, your only option when dealing with them is to try and avoid them entirely by running from them or getting to a place that they can't reach. However, even so, it's easy to get hurt and fall off the stage, given how persistent and distracting they are. While it does take five penguins latching on to Penny to take off a hit point (and send her to the last checkpoint), it only takes one to break a combo, which can sink an attempt to earn a stage's postcard.
• Friendly Fandoms: Many Sonic the Hedgehog fans quickly latched onto the game due to its colorful art style and use of momentum physics inspired by the classic Sonic games. It helps that many of the developers behind Penny's Big Breakaway were also behind the critically acclaimed Sonic Mania.
• Scrappy Mechanic: The quick time event sequences at the end of each level. Not only are they required for 100% Completion, but they also have oversensitive input registering and can screw up an otherwise perfect run of a level for a reason that isn't entirely your fault.
