YMMV / Parsnip

Go To

  • Diagnosed by the Audience: While Parsnip's bubbly personality at first seems to simply be in line with the hand-drawn, picture book-esque art style of the game, interaction with other characters quickly reveals that Parsnip is... Different. While no mention of mental health is made in the game at least, not by any of the characters, Parsnip's overtly childish behavior and perception of the world becomes ever-more apparent the more progress is made.
  • Fridge Brilliance: The reason Parsnip has a crush on Le Rose? She's the only other bunny in town so, of course Parsnip has an attraction to her.
  • Genius Bonus: In the story of Haita the Shepherd by Ambrose Bierce, the God of Sheep-herding is named Hastur. That name would later be referenced in The King in Yellow, and later still it would be clarified by writers of the Cthulhu Mythos that Hastur and the King in Yellow are one and the same. Now, where do sheep appear in this particular story...?
  • Funny Moments: One of the first things you see as you begin to explore the world in this cheerful, watercolor point-and-click Adventure Game? A dour-looking, alcoholic bunny lady wearing an Artsy Beret who spends the entire day taking swigs from a bottle of "grape juice". That alone should hint you at the true nature of Parsnip.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: One can hardly fault the player for initially mistaking Parsnip for being female, given his style of dress and overall cutesy appearance. However, his true gender is revealed on the game's download page, the trailer, and the tutorial, and assuming these are overlooked by a player, it is pointed out in game by Squirrel Girl and Parsnip himself.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: Parsnip's cute style can fool people into thinking it's a game meant for kids, when it features cults, imagery not appropriate for kids, and a whole plethora of other things.
