YMMV / Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures

Go To

  • Difficulty Spike: First-time players will find trouble in playing the hang-glide and mine cart sections because of how differently they play out compared to the rest of the game and the numerous things that can kill them (with none of them having any sort of checkpoints).
  • It's Short, So It Sucks!: This game is often criticized for how short it is as, if one should know how to get everything without messing up on any on the hanglide and mine cart sections, this game can be completed in less than an hour or two.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Pac-Man himself can come across this. Despite being able to act like a smug asshole through the entire game, Pac-Man himself is always trying to do the right thing and his attitude at times can be caused by the player doing certain things to him or other things around him.
  • Memetic Mutation: Pac-Man's incredibly smug-looking walking animation, which he does when he's very happy.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: The theme that plays whenever Pac-Man completes an objective.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • The Gum Monster itself. Compared to everything else in the game especially with the Ghosts themselves not being scary at all, the Gum Monster is indeed a terrifying sight.
    • Some of the game over animations can be this, in spite of the lack of graphic violence and comedic tone. The one where Pac-Man is swarmed by worms falling from the tree and being so shocked that he is unable to do anything about it makes for a very Squick scene, for example.
  • Padding: Technically the game starts out this way. The only mission where the Ghost Witch doesn't have an influence over is the first mission when retrieving milk for Pac-Baby. Afterwards, she forces the Ghosts to interfere with Pac-Man's plans by messing with him during the hang-glide section of the second mission, having them steal Pac-Junior's guitar in the third, and finally becoming personally involved in the fourth and final mission where she has the Ghosts steal all of the pre-chewed gum from the kids and later sicking the Gum Monster after Pac-Man.
  • Play the Game, Skip the Story: You can literally just hit "Start" through nearly all the cutscenes in the game.
  • Values Dissonance: This ad for the game features a group of kids exploiting a "special" friend. They probably thought this was hilarious back then, but nowadays it is seen as horrifically ableist towards special needs children.
