  • Americans Hate Tingle: This movie is controversial at best in France because of its positive portrayal of the National Liberation Front, (which is reviled in France for its terrorist attacks and having persecuted and killed pied-noir and jewish civilians, as well as harki militaries, though it still exist today as the official political party in Algeria), and the pro-Algeria side, the demonization of the French one (notably about the Sétif and Guelma massacre right when World War II ended in Europe) and the historical inaccuracies about the Algerian War of Independence. Ironically, Jamel Debbouze has played in this movie, even though he is popular in France for his comedic career.
  • Spiritual Successor: To Bouchareb's own 2006 film Days of Glory, about Algerians fighting in the French army in World War II. This film has some of the same actors playing characters with the same names, but is clearly not the same continuity.
