  • Channel Hop: Retribution migrated from Minecraft Forums to Space Battles when news of the former getting archived and becoming read-only emerged. While Minecraft Forum eventually remained useable, the game has already migrated to Space Battles by that point.
  • Demonic Spiders: Retribution actually has many as part of its Sequel Difficulty Spike.
    • Majors don't just hit hard and can tank lots of damage, they can also give passive stat boosts to other enemies that are on the field. While they can't apply their buffs to themselves, they can get buffed by other Majors if there are multiple on the field. Even worse, multiple Majors can have their buffs stack. Woe befalls you if you encounter a wave with multiple Majors and the other Demonic Spiders listed below.
    • Necromancers can resurrect dead mooks (except those who were killed by area hazards or captured by the Pokeball item). This already sounds bad enough. But their being able to do that as soon as they get their turn and that enemies are resurrected with full HP is what made them even bigger priority targets than Medics, whose healing can be easily countered by enough burst damage. What's more, they're one of only two enemies in the game that have high resistance to Arcane attacks (the other one also qualify as a Demonic Spider).
    • Battle Tanks are tough and have a very damaging Splash Damage attack. Their toughness are bolstered by their high resistance to all elements save for Arcane, with their Explosive resistance being the highest in the game. Fortunately, they have to spend a turn reloading after each shot.
    • Titans don't hit as hard as Battle Tanks, but they're even tougher, with higher elemental resistance to boot.
    • Mimics can be this if they copied a particularly powerful player's stats.
    • Think Necromancers are dangerous? How about the Soul Reapers? They are not very tough, but any kills they land restore them to full HP, which is very likely to happen due to how hard they hit. Additionally, any players that they kill cannot be revived.
  • It's Easy, So It Sucks!: A rare example of this trope being invoked by the creator. See Creator Backlash in the Trivia page.
  • Sequel Difficulty Spike: Following the cancellation of Digital Warfare due to its lack of difficulty killing off motivation for everyone, Retribution makes up for it by actually trying to make things challenging. Item researches go through more stringent evaluations to ensure that they can never become Disc One Nukes (either on their own or when used in conjunction with other items), enemies are tougher and more numerous (to the point that it has legitimate Demonic Spiders and Goddamned Bats), and at one point, the players actually ran into the Game Over screen for the first time ever in the series. Needless to say, strategic thinking became important for victory this time.
