  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Brent Spiner as Gil Godwyn. Evil Is Hammy, indeed.
  • Questionable Casting: Rue McClanahan as Ellen Carruthers, a Grande Dame role that seems to be costumed and written for an older actress (McClanahan was only 61 during filming) and is more of a Straight Man that doesn't make use of her comedic talents the same way her most famous role of Blanche Deveraux previously did.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: Mac's line "Don't ask, don't tell." when he and Jonathan mistake Herb and Charlie's dancing for something else refers to the then-recent U.S. military policy forbidding the open discussion of sexual orientation, which would be repealed in 2011.
  • Values Dissonance: Try to imagine a comedy film today getting away with the Questionable Consent situation between Ellen and Gil with a) the protagonist who caused the situation getting little comeuppance for causing it to happen and b) the whole scene being played so lightheartedly. At the very least, the scene would be made clearer for the audience today.
    • Mileage will vary on whether the more objectifying cracks about women made by characters like Charlie and Jonathan have aged poorly or are Crossing the Line Twice.
