- Unintentional Period Piece: The atlas has several features that immediately date it to the mid-2000s, most notably its portrayal of Venezuela as oil-rich and carefree; since the death of Hugo Chavez, Venezuela's economy has been in catastrophic freefall and the country is now one of the poorest and most unstable in the Americas. The book also lacks an entry for South Sudan, which became independent 4 years after its publication — the civil war that mostly dominates Sudan's entry led to South Sudan's secession.
