YMMV / Origami Yoda

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Is Harvey really a Jerkass, or is he misunderstood? Or both?
  • Aluminum Christmas Trees: "Bom Vimdim", a Star Wars character mentioned in the third book, is an actual character in the Star Wars EU.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: The "turtle" chapter in Emperor Pickletine Rides the Bus. A teacher is guiding children at a museum, and shows them a glyptodon note . A bunch of little kids shout "TURTLE!" at it, and the teacher tries to correct them, to no avail. She gives up, and shows them a mammoth. Unfortunately for her, one of the kids shouts, "ELEPHANT! ELEPHANT! ELEPHANT!" And Tommy's comment? "TURTLE!" It's very out of place.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: In the 2nd book, Kellen goes skateboarding, and gets made fun of by a bratty little kid. The kid only appeared in one chapter, but became very popular with the fandom.
  • Funny Moments: In the first book, Kellen gets water on his tan pants, making it look like he peed, and he asks Dwight if he has any ideas. He says he's getting the idea that Kellen peed in his pants.
  • Heartwarming Moments: In the final book, Mrs. Rabbski and Mr. Howell become a couple. What makes it even better is that they're now (mostly) on the kids' side now, so it makes you feel really happy for them.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Dwight has a moment in the final book thinking about, as awesome as it would be, it's unlikely that new Star Wars movies would get made. Cue The Force Awakens and the sequel trilogy.
    • Mara Jade's inclusion can be this as the old Expanded Universe, which introduced her, was discarded; while some characters like Grand Admiral Thrawn did appear in the new timeline, Mara hasn't.
  • Ho Yay: In the 5th book, Harvey tells Tommy he's impressed that he can move his small body quickly.
    • Kellen, who does all of the drawings in the case files, often draws Harvey in his underwear. It's supposed to be to make fun of him, but it might be homoerotic.
    • It is suggested that Murky might be gay, so the fact that he chose Padme as his puppet and quotes romantic moments between her and Anakin to Harvey looks like Ho Yay between the two boys.
  • I Knew It!: Harvey has a crush on Sara.
  • Iron Woobie: Dwight. Harvey constantly makes fun of him and his puppet Origami Yoda, but he's usually pretty happy.
  • Moment of Awesome: At the end of the 5th book, Tommy explains to Harvey via case file comment who stole the case file, attached an origami Princess Leia to it, and attached labels to it. He asks questions to get Harvey thinking, like "Who could make an origami Princess Leia that good? With hair buns and everything?" He answers these questions by saying, "That's right... Dwight!". And then, there's a label below Tommy's comment, implied to be placed by Dwight: "That's Captain Dwight!"
  • Ron the Death Eater: Harvey is a Jerk with a Heart of Gold in the books, but gets turned into a Jerkass in most fan-fics.
  • Strangled by the Red String: A couple of cases in the sixth book. Remi is suddenly no longer interested in Kellen even though the last three books set her up as his new love interest, Kellen suddenly likes Cassie after no foreshadowing whatsoever, and Quavando and Jen are together in spite of being hostile before. It's especially jarring given how well Tommy and Sara, or Lance and Amy, were developed.
