  • Alternative Character Interpretation: This ends up getting invoked in-universe for Suwa in regards to his placement in the Love Triangle between himself, Naho and Kakeru. The Suwa of the original timeline "moved in" on Naho after Kakeru's crippling depression ended up alienated himself from her. In his letter to himself, it's revealed that Suwa still harbors a lot of internalized guilt over not trying to take a more active role in helping Kakeru before that latter committed suicide. It leads to the debate over whether Suwa was being a Dogged Nice Guy or a legitimate Nice Guy. The original Suwa clearly viewed himself as the former while his friends and even Naho tried to convince him that he was the latter.
  • Ass Pull: The letters being sent back in time via a black hole that exists within the Bermudas Triangle, since they just happen to land correctly in each of the group's respective mailboxes at the exact moment they needed when they had no control of it, or were even certain that they would travel back in time in the first place. Deus ex Machina does not even begin to cover this plot point.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Naho and Kakeru are extremely divisive within the anime fandom during the second half of the story, due to Naho's thickheadedness and Kakeru's bullheadedness often holding up, or even regressing the story. Their romance is only moving forward because of all the effort their friends putting into it, not to mention that Naho has such a firm grasp on the Idiot Ball through the entire series to the point that "Suwa is the real hero of the story" is basically a meme within the fandom. On the other hand, people also love Naho for trying her best to break out of her shell and help Kakeru, while Kakeru is also liked for his character development.
  • Cliché Storm: The original plot settings, but not the story itself, are this in the context of the shoujo manga; we have the usual love triangle with the naive main character, an angsty Tsundere and a Nice Guy.
  • Contested Sequel: Mirai ended up splitting the fanbase right in two, one half believing that it's a good sequel that properly ties up the loose ends left in the original Manga, while the other firmly thinks that it's nothing more than a shameless cash-in due to its heavy recycling of material from the Anime, not to mention completely rejecting the Naho/Suwa ship by showing that Naho not only ended up with Kakeru in the altered timeline, but also was unhappy with her life with Suwa to the point she dreams of being with Kakeru instead in the original timeline.
  • Die for Our Ship: On the one hand, it is played almost literally in-universe, since Kakeru "must" die so that Naho marries Suwa, and on the other hand, some Naho-Suwa supporters think about this, wanting to see their pairing even in a new world. Unfortunately, this leads to Kakeru getting Ron the Death Eater treatment from the more intense shippers, even though his more antagonistic attributes are actual traits of depression.
  • Fanon Discontinuity: Orange: Mirai, due to its divisive elements. Not only for revealing Future Naho never moved on from Kakeru and she was unhappy married to Suwa but also for The Reveal of Suwa knowingly sacrificing his chance at a relationship with her at the request of his future self.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Many fans preferred Naho with Suwa rather than Naho and Kakeru due to Suwa's altruism and kindness, especially when compared with Kakeru's behavior later during the second half of the story. Some of them even held out on the hope that Suwa would eventually become Naho's husband in the second timeline, especially after Future!Naho's reassurances, until the movie happened.
  • Funny Moments: On the day of February 15th, the day Kakeru is supposed to commit suicide, the group wonders what they can do to prevent it. Hagita recommends destroying his bike but that plan gets turned down for being too mean. Later on after the group finds Kakeru stopping himself from committing suicide and having a group hug, they ask why he didn't have his bike with him. Kakeru mentions he wanted to take it, but someone busted the gears on it. Hagita can't believe how cruel people can be.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: "Even if Kakeru lived, I would have chosen you anyway". Mirai reveals that not only does Naho end up with Kakeru in the second timeline, it also turns out that her original timeline self is so unhappy with her life with Suwa she's actually having dreams where she's married to Kakeru instead.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • If we are in love with each other, this does not mean that we must be dating!
    • Suwa is the real hero of the story.
  • Narm: Cheap animation quickly evokes this, as because of static smiles, the characters sometimes look like they are mentally handicapped.
  • So Okay, It's Average: This seems to be the general opinion on the anime adaptation, stating that while the story is pretty faithful to the manga, the sheer amount of Off-Model shots, the rather dull soundtrack and lackluster voice acting simply drag it down way too much.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: Suwa as of the movie, Orange: Mirai. It turns out Suwa's real motivation for not confessing his feelings to Naho is because he believes he was being a Dogged Nice Guy by moving in on her after Kakeru died. Despite getting a pep talk from the others that he really is a Nice Guy, Suwa still decides not to act on his own feelings since he knew that in the present, Naho is in love with Kakeru. To drive the point home further, the movie ends with an implication that the Naho from the original timeline still is not over Kakeru. Given that Suwa is the Breakout Character of the series, you can imagine how well this went over with the fanbase.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Future Naho; the sequel/interquel movie, Orange: Mirai, confirmed the fan suspicion that she never really moved on from Kakeru after his death. This led to fans accusing her of leading on Suwa and her true motivation for writing the letter being to "correct" the mistake of who she ended up with.
