  • Nightmare Fuel: The movie does a painfully good job showing just what a raging monster an out-of-control wildfire can be. However, if you read more about the limitations of the fire shelters of the time and what happened in the Yarnell fire, it starts becoming pure, distilled nightmare fuel.
    • For example: While the fire shelters are pretty good at protecting at up to about 500 degrees, the temperature in the Yarnell fire was estimated to be 2000 degrees, or 16 times more energetic. Nor could the shelters protect the firefighters from superheated air, the real killer. One lungful of 2000 degree heat would burn lungs like rice paper. They weren't alive for their bodies to catch fire. For all their preparations, the shelters were as useless as tissue paper against a firestorm. And they knew it.
  • Tear Jerker: The entire end of the movie is a massive one of these. Watching the families grieving, and Brandon's massive case of Survivor Guilt, is very hard. Not even the hard-bitten fire chief of Prescott is unmoved by the tragedy.
    • If you want an even bigger one, the full real-world memorial servicenote  is available on YouTube here.
