YMMV / One Girl with Ten Brothers

Go To

  • Fridge Brilliance: Linka's Tomboy with a Girly Streak personality stems from her having so many brothers, which gives her a primarily masculine influence in her life. In that case, the opposite can also be said to be true of Claudia; she's an only child being raised by two mothers, so she's a Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak because the primary influences in her life are feminine.
  • Fridge Horror: In "Crazy Little Thing", Holly McBride reveals that she didn't come out as a lesbian to her parents until she was in college because she was no longer living with them at that point in her life. She specifically mentions her father during this statement, which heavily implies that he may have had been pretty homophobic and Holly knew that she would have been kicked out of the house if she revealed her sexuality to him sooner.
  • Funny Moments:
    • In "Chore and Peace (Genderbent)", Linka says something that actually rhymes with sixteen.
Loki: (exasperatedly) Will you please stop talking in chants?
Linka: (chanting) Thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen! Get back to me when you clean!
[The brothers all groan in exasperation.]
    • The running gag of "did you say he?" in "Twice as Hard". Foreshadowing Luke's romantic relationship with Sam.
Luke: Awesome! I can't wait for Sam to hear this. He's gonna love it!
    Linka: Did you say "he"?
    Luke: Uhhhhhh....
Luke: Dude, Sam loved the changes I made to the lyrics! How can I write more emotional songs for him without you?
    Leif: Did you say "him"?
    Luke: This isn't about me!
    • In "No Spoilers (Genderbent)", Claudia (dressed as Esmeralda) does a little twirl, making her skirt go up, and wraps her arms and ribbons around Linka, who teases by saying "And you got me a dancer! But where's the pole?".
Lane: (blows a kiss to the readers) Goodnight, everybody!
  • Moment of Awesome: In "No Spoilers (Genderbent)", like in the original episode, Loni is the one who salvaged the party and saved the day because he's been working on a Disney-themed party for Linka ever since he found out about the dream she had during the previous chapter.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • "Who is the Fairest of the All" begins with Alpha Bitch Heather bullying Linka for being a tomboy. It makes Linka so insecure about it that she signs up for a beauty pageant and tries to change her whole personality and look to be more girly despite having her Best Friend Claudia and ten brothers who love her for who she truly is, who all attempt to convince her not to abandon her true self. It’s not until near the end of the chapter when Linka sees that her brothers showed up at the pageant to support her despite the fact that they still don't like how she signed up in the first place that she finally reaccepts her tomboyishness.
    • In Chapter 23, the Loud siblings spend their last night together on the couch, before Child Services takes them away the next morning. The saddened parents quietly watch them. Fortunately, Michelle Brock of Child Services decided not to separate the family after all.
    • In the chapter “The Frog Fiasco”, Leif has put Lexx in charge of taking care of his frog Hops while he’s at a doctor’s appointment. Unfortunately, Hops escaped through an open window then gets hit by a truck. When Leif comes back, he breaks down in a fit of anger and tears; he blames Lexx for Hops’ death and throws him out of their room. The first half of the chapter is spent with Leif dealing with the heartbreak of the loss of his beloved pet.
    • In "Crazy Little Thing", the reason why Luke is afraid of coming out as bisexual with a boyfriend to his family is because he's heard plenty of stories about LBGT teens getting rejected and disowned by their families when their sexualities and/or gender identities are discovered. The nightmare that he has about his brothers and parents turning against him because of it (while Linka, who already found out and is accepting of it, is powerless to help Luke) doesn't help him feel secure about his sexuality. On the other hand, it makes his family accepting Luke's sexuality and supporting his relationship with Sam when he does come out to them all the sweeter.
