YMMV / Omega Men

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Is Primus truly a revolutionary fighting for the greater good, no matter the cost? Or is he just a Dirty Coward and a Hypocrite, willing to sacrifice thousands of innocents for his own selfish goals?
  • Broken Base: While the title itself has received high praise from critics, Green Lantern fans disagree about Kyle's portrayal. While some readers think that this is the first good Kyle story in years, others dislike the changes made to his backstory, and question King's decision to emphasize character beats that other Kyle stories have attempted to resolve.
  • Character Rerailment: Since the New 52, readers have considered Kyle Rayner's solo series mediocre at best. Omega Men strips Kyle of his godlike powers, and transforms him back into a vulnerable and relatable character once again.
  • It Was His Sled: Kyle Rayner is revealed to be alive at the end of the first issue. It's nearly impossible to discuss the series past the first issue without mentioning his role.
  • Like You Would Really Do It: Very few actually believed that DC would allow Kyle Rayner to be killed off in a book about an obscure set of characters.
  • Too Good to Last: The experimental storytelling, the obscure characters, and the lack of a handholding narrative led fans to believe that it would be canceled very quickly. Unfortunately, they were right, as DC canceled the series at 7 issues despite initially promising 12. However, DC Un-Canceled the series to allow Tom King to finish his story at 12 issues.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?: Despite the parallels to the political situation in the Middle East, and the fact that the writer (Tom King) is a former CIA counterterrorism officer, King has stated that he is not making a political statement, but rather just updating classic sci-fi for the modern world.
