- Stolz discovers Mukhoyarov's scheme to swindle Oblomov. Since the latter is too ashamed to actually tell his friend what happened, Stolz deduces from the poor state of Oblomov's house that something is very wrong. Then Stolz questions Agafya, sees her feelings towards Oblomov and gets her firmly on their side. Then he uses his connections to get Oblomov out of Mukhoyarov's clutches.
- After Tarantyev dares to insult Olga, Oblomov finally, finally has enough, slaps his mug and cuts ties with him.
