- Anvilicious: The Amber Pope, the closest thing the Steadfast has to a universal religious leader, is trying to unite the nations of the Steadfast against the non-existent threat of the poor, weak, peacefully-perfect and perfectly-peaceful neo-pagan Gaians for purely political reasons, while being blind to the dangerous threat posed by Vralk, because organized religion is just a dodgy way to trick people into doing what the powerful want, amirite?
- Fridge Horror: The xacorocax in the Ninth World Bestiary is described as essentially a mobile meatpacking factory, chasing down and dragging its targets into its maw to be sliced and neatly wrapped into vacuum-sealed packaging. Its entry also notes that it seems to prefer human targets. Combined with the knowledge that at least one of the previous worlds was dominated by nonhuman intelligences, it becomes clear that one previous civilization had a taste for human meat. Combine this with the fact that Ninth World humans are somehow indistinguishable from early 21st century humans, not to mention the creatures who capture humans and treat them as farm animals, and the implications just get that much worse...
