  • Harsher in Hindsight: Good lord. What with the jokes about "pussy grabbing," people shouting "Time's up" during the union meeting, and the overall subject matter, if this movie had been released in 2017 or 2018, it would have been criticized for being "too on-the-nose."
  • Moment of Awesome: The "Yellow Ice" speech. Also, when Josey's dad stands up and gives his entire workplace a The Reason You Suck speech.
    • "I ain't fuckin' dead yet. I stand with Josey."
  • Nightmare Fuel: Almost the entire movie due to the subject matter; but especially the scene where Josey is raped by her high school teacher.. It is extremely disturbing, depicting it as the horrific act of violence that it is.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Having the turning point in court being unrelated to the actual workplace abuse and more about Josey having been raped in High School which inspires defenders feels like a cop out, when the "Yellow Ice" speech could have been made to Ricky, or another worker who'd witnessed the abuse at the mine, and been conflicted about it but never done anything yet.
