• Fan Nickname: Viewers have called it "Canada's Southland" due to the gritty drama in the show.
• Harsher in Hindsight: It's a bit harder to watch the school shooting episode following two school shootings in Florida and Texas, both of which also left many students and staff members dead. Much like the fictional shooting, a myriad of problems plagued the police response to the Florida shooting, such as communication difficulties and failures by officers to engage the shooter even when they were supposed to (though these problems were even worse in the real-life case than what was depicted in the episode), while in the Texas shooting, a police officer was also among those critically injured (during a shootout in two conjoined classrooms, no less).
• Signature Scene: The school shooting scene, especially The Oner in the beginning.
• Stoic Woobie: Through all his travails, Ben is wrapped tighter than...well, extremely tightly. Which makes the few glimpses of emotion he lets escape more powerful.
• The Woobie: Nick/Nicolaï after his partner gets permanently disabled in a shootout.
