  • Alternative Character Interpretation: It's debatable as to how nasty the seven girls the Owl seeks revenge against really were to him. It's confirmed that Alison and Laura were bullies but it's more ambiguous with the other girls. The Owl could be regarded as an Unreliable Narrator, given he's an extremely twisted and vindictive individual who is willing to murder people over petty slights or wrongdoings committed decades ago. Supporting this is that the Owl convinces himself that Jean was also a bully but there's no evidence of this and Jean even states she never laughed at him. It's plausible that some of the girls were not as awful to the Owl as he recalls or that he blew things out of proportion. Given the Owl was deeply disturbed even as a teenager, it's also possible that some of the girls rejected or shunned him not just because he was a "nerd" but because they found him creepy; while it doesn't justify their bullying, it's possible the Owl's claims of being unfairly persecuted or excluded are not entirely justified, and his attitude towards the girls and other women definitely has misogynistic undertones.
  • Moral Event Horizon: The Owl crossed it long ago by murdering Karen Sommers in a blind rage after mistaking her for Laura Wilcox; he'd been intending to kill Laura purely for making fun of him and was careless enough not to check who he actually attacked. When he found out he'd made a mistake, the Owl didn't even feel remorse for killing the completely innocent Karen and leaving her parents to find her body, instead seeing it as the moment that 'freed' him to carry out more murders against those he feels have wronged him (or are simply in the wrong place at the wrong time).
