YMMV / Night Raid 1931

• Americans Hate Tingle: "Hate" may be too strong a word, but during its original run in 2010, viewer interest in this show in the English-speaking world dropped dramatically after Episode 6... because all but one fansub group stopped working on it. It took months for translations of the latter half of the series to come out (by which time the show was already over), because the vocabulary and concepts used ^* such as deterrence theory, nuclear physics, and extensive discussion of literary authors such as Rampo Edogawa were so difficult to translate that it discouraged a lot of fansubbers from even trying their hand at it (and it required a team effort between two groups to finish up the show). Most people were quite surprised to find that an official English release was put out by Sentai Filmworks, as general opinion was that this work was too obscure and the subject of too little interest to Westerners to be profitable.
• Awesome Music: The entire soundtrack is awesome as it was composed by violinist Taro Hakase. The track, "The Mission to Complete", invokes a lot of jazz and noir which fits the The '30s' era.
• Heartwarming Moments: Right before the first half of episode nine (or ten, if you count the recap episode as episode seven and the Mukden Incident episode as episode eight), Yukina, Aoi, Natsume, and Kazura are all sitting outside and watching the scenery of the town below them and the stars above them. It reminds us that in spite all of the conflicts the Sakurai Kikan is going through, they are still friends.
• Questionable Casting: There were criticisms about Aoi's English dub actor, Greg Ayres, in which they complained that his performance sounded like Aoi had a sore throat. Others thought that this was due to Nepotism since his older brother, Chris Ayres, was the ADR director for this show.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: The common criticism of the show is lack of character development since the show focused too much on the plot. Though the main characters have some interesting backstories, the one who suffers the most is Natsume who doesn't have much focus other than being Yukina's servant and having a sister back home.
