• Memetic Mutation: Ever wonder where most anime-based memes start before they hit YouTube? Now you know.
  • Here's a rule of thumb: 35% of videos uploaded have some relation to Touhou Project since the characters are memetically famous, 25% are related to Vocaloid, 25% have some relation to any current anime (this can include official uploads), and the rest is just everything else, ranging from covers to manga uploads to music uploads that may end up getting banned and forced to listen to the replacement song. There is, of course, overlap between these categories.
  • wwwwwwwwwwwwwww^note 'w' is short for warau, which means "to laugh". It's the Japanese equivalent of "LOL". Interspersing text with 'w''s (for example: サンプwwルテwキwwスト) denotes trying to speak while laughing.
  • 888888888888888^note The number 8 is often spoken as hachi or, due to voiced consonant rules in Japanese, pachi. Pachi is also an onomotopeia for clapping, which the 8's in this context refer to. Often used at the ends of videos to represent applause.
  • wktk^note Short for ワクワクテカテカ, the onomatopoeia for "trembling in excitement". Typically used to express anticipation or, as you can guess, excitement.
  • ※おっさんは非売品です^note Translates literally to "*Uncle is not for sale". Often seen tagged to videos featuring a Cool Old Guy.
• Retroactive Recognition: Plenty of Nico Nico personalities have this effect after they make it big. Gom sang "Omoide wa Okkusenman"? Those IOSYS guys used to do parody videos? And that's not even getting into how many popular utaite and composers got their start with covering karaoke tunes and Vocaloid songs.
