YMMV / Next (2020)

  • The Firefly Effect: The series was already projected to be a failure because it got moved back to the fall of 2020, where it would be pre-empted by US election coverage, but the announcement after three episodes that Fox was cancelling the show pretty much killed any chance of it developing a fandom.
  • Funny Moments:
    • In "FILE #8", Paul pulls out a gun and stages a hostage situation at the ZAVA offices in order to buy enough time to download something onto the server. While waiting for the download, he tries to buy something from a nearby snack machine and wonders out loud who he has to kill to get a damn snack. After noticing the hostages staring at him in horror, he apologizes and admits that that was a poor choice of words.
    • After repeatedly failing to get the machine to accept his money, he wonders who was the idiot who installed the machines... then sees a photograph of himself next to them.
  • Paranoia Fuel:
    • The very premise itself runs on paranoia fuel, as Next keeps finding new and inventive ways to torment and kill people through technology that one would never expect to see weaponized.
    • In the second episode, Agent Salazar and her husband listen to a smart speaker trying to indoctrinate their son.
    • In "FILE #3", everything about the BioMotion laboratory is creepy, ranging from robot-dog things that can open doors to a primitive robot that can impersonate human voices to an intelligent motorized wheelchair that has its tetraplegic occupant completely at its mercy.
