YMMV / New Tamaran

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Chapter 8 of Justice Returns gives an explanation for the existence of the DC Multiverse, but it has no bearing on the plot, and only seems to serve as a way to wedge in piss-takes towards TT adaptations the author hates.
  • Character Rerailment:
    • By the end of New Tamaran, Starfire has all but dropped her naive Genki Girl persona, having become more confident and forceful like her original portrayal in the comics. She also spends the story believing in polyamory, as it's the norm in Tamaranean culture; this also comes straight from the original comics.
    • In The Killing Joke movie, Barbara Gordon was infamously portrayed as acting out of pure selfishness, while also being reckless, impulsive, and hot-headed. By contrast, the Barbara in these stories still doesn’t make the most ethical actions, yet she does them because she truly believes they are in the best interests of the people she cares about. She also takes time to plan out her actions, and ultimately does succumb to criticism.
  • Genius Bonus:
    • The Amazons are strong believers in bisexuality, polyamory, and BDSM - just like Wonder Woman creator William Moulton Marston.
    • Red Lantern rings inflict their users with uncontrollable rage and insanity, which explains why Blackfire is far more evil here than she ever was in the comics.
    • Wildfire's wife is Zirral, the only other Tamaranean member of the Omega Men.
    • Gamesmaster, the virtual persona of Control Freak, was the villain from the graphic novel New Teen Titans: Games.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: At the start of Justice Returns, what's left of the Justice League is shown struggling in their attack on Apokolips. This was released in 2018, over a year before Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, in which the League is crushed in their attack on Apokolips.
  • Squick: The details of the teen heroes' sex lives, especially in the lime prequels, may be uncomfortable for some readers, especially if you don't see them coming.
  • Unexpected Character:
    • Wildfire being married to his Omega Men teammates, Zirral and Rynoc.
    • Wonder Girl's origin story features a modernized Abner Smith, villain of the obscure Wonder Woman TV movie.
  • Writer-Induced Fanon: The fanfic shares an awful lot of story details with rumors about the show's unproduced sixth season. These include:
    • Being focused on Starfire.
    • Blackfire as the main villain.
    • An alien invasion.
    • Terra and Slade both return. (But only as cameos.)
    • Robin becomes Nightwing, and Raven becomes White Raven.
    • Being Darker and Edgier than the show.
    • Bringing back Season 5 Titans.
    • Beast Boy and Raven become a couple.
    • Robin and Starfire further their romance.
