• Player Punch: Despite the fact that the reader doesn't spend any time with him learning of Shu-chi's death hits pretty hard.
  • Or at least as hard as it does for Liao, who admits he didn't actually know the guy at all...
• Stoic Woobie: Likulau holds up well, but he's deeply torn up about the the possibility of not being able to save his people.
• Why Would Anyone Take Him Back?: For some it is a bit of a stretch that Liao accepts Leopard Cat/ Yan Shu-chi back after everything he's done. He admits to manipulating Liao for the entire time he has known him with the intent to consume his soul. He even gleefully admits to eating Yan Shu-chi's soul on the first day he and Liao met.
