YMMV / Naruto: Uzumaki Chronicles

Go To

  • Breather Boss: The Grey Monkey is significantly easier than any other boss in the game, as he’s more slippery than difficult and he relies on an initial numbers advantage with his fellow monkeys. This is accentuated even harder during the optional boss rematches, as his node is found in the same area as Curse Mark Sasuke, Half-Shukaku Gaara, The Praying Mantises and Orochimaru phase II.
  • Complete Monster: Orochimaru sought a jutsu capable of providing him a constantly reviving army. To that end, he discovered and perfected a parasitic mist that slowly ate the victim from the inside out and took over their mind. Countless people, dead or alive, including condemned prisoners and innocent Wind Gate villagers, were kidnapped and exposed to the mist, turning them into undead killing machines against their will. Orochimaru's ultimate goal with this experimental jutsu was to loose his army on the Leaf Village to destroy it once and for all.
  • Game-Breaker: Neji's 8 Trigrams 64 Palms jutsu makes him an essential boss killer. It locks an opponent in place and delivers a truckload of safe damage onto an enemy. With good timing it can even be used twice to absolutely shred through an opponent's health bar.
  • Goddamned Boss: Kabuto is practically designed to annoy you. He spams Dead Soul Jutsu to overwhelm you with numbers and will also make liberal use of his ground traveling jutsu to either escape and heal or to get the drop on you with a quick and powerful ground slash. His second/third fight also brings in the giant from earlier in the game and he and the giant will chase you down as you are destroying the Prisms that perpetually heal the giant. At the very least Neji in the first/second fight and Sasuke in the second/third are deft picks to deal with his annoying gimmicks.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Naruto befriending a Canon Foreigner named "Karin" a few years before Karin was introduced in the manga. However, the canon Karin's personality is a stark contrast from the Shrinking Violet in this game.
    • One of the late-game reveals is that Kabuto has been manipulating a deadly sentient mist using natural energy, and he and Orochimaru seek to use this mist to control an unstoppable undead army. This is YEARS before the Fourth Great Ninja War arc, which sees Kabuto using Edo Tensei to create a zombie army not unlike what he was attempting here, as well as being revealed as one of the few characters to use nature energy (Sage Mode) in the series.
  • Low-Tier Letdown: Gaara is in an undesirable situation. He's a boss killer much like Neji thanks to his powerful Sand Burial, however it's easier for the jutsu to miss and isn't safe until the sand wave connects. His second jutsu also isn't all that great compared to other crowd-control attacks that other characters can use, making him if anything a hindrance for the cart protection missions. All-in-all he's likely only ever going to be used in the final chapter (of the Japanese version) and even there he might be overshadowed by Sasuke.
  • That One Boss:
    • Gaara can be difficult due to his long-range attacks, the ability to No-Sell attacks with his sand barrier, and his extremely damaging Sand Coffin + Sand Burial jutsu. He gets even worse in his Japanese-exclusive second fight where he's forced into his partial Shukaku state. His new basic attack has a wide range and his version of Sand Coffin can come out very unexpectedly and potentially stunlock you into a game over. As if that wasn't bad enough, after you defeat him you still need to do one more fight against Kabuto. See his entry in Goddamned Boss.
    • The Dual Boss against the pair of giant Praying Mantises is one of the most difficult bosses in the game. They have exceptional range on their basic attacks and they have a projectile slice that they can send your way. They jump around creating shockwaves which can close the distance and punish you if you’re not too careful. Just dealing with one of these freaks is difficult enough, but the second one just adds insult to injury. Thankfully Neji is required for this mission and his jutsus are a lifesaver.
  • That One Level: The later escort and protection missions can result in the player being overwhelmed by wave after wave of high-level enemies.
