YMMV / Naruto: The Abridged Series

• Broken Base:
  • Over Masako's returning to the series with Faulerro. Reception was somewhat mixed. Especially by Vegeta's girlfriend, who attacked Masako on Twitter over his returning.
  • NTAM, or Naruto The Abridged Movie. No two reactions will be the same, not everyone thinks it's actually serious or a case of Vegeta being a Troll, the comment section is a complete war zone, and the quality has been argued as the lowest the series has ever sunk. Doesn't help that LK's version came out first, which was far more well received.
  • The new voices from NTAS 31 onward. If you've watched Shippuden Abridged by CanadianJutsu, you'll probably become fans of these episodes. If you haven't, then you'll probably hate them.
• Ensemble Dark Horse: Took advantage of Iruka being one in the anime and got him into a running rivalry with Kakashi.
• Fandom Rivalry: With Naruto The Abridged Comedy Spoof Series Show.
• Harsher in Hindsight:
  • The creators in-show arguments become bitter when you realize one of the reasons MasakoX quit.
  • All of episode 28. This is where Sasuke (voiced by MasakoX) ends his friendship with Naruto and Sakura (both of whom are voiced by Vegeta) and leaves. It's very bitter when taking the creators into account.
• Heartwarming Moments: Despite Naruto The Abridged Movie's poor reception and Vegeta3986 turning into a punchline for the Abridging community, the series was welcome back with open arms by even some of Vegeta's former colleagues in 2018 after a seven year Schedule Slip.
• Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • Mickey Mouse takes on the role of the Big Bad in the Wave Country Arc (as Gatou). In a fanart contest submission, he explains he dressed up as a 60-year-old man since as a cartoon mouse "how the hell [is he] supposed to scare anybody?". Cue a few years later, then...
  • Naruto is eventually convinced that Idate is Sonic the Hedgehog. About three months later, guess whose voice actor is announced to be the new Sonic? Which is even funnier because earlier, he mistook him for Batman. Well, that was before the announcement that Roger Craig Smith voiced a young Bruce Wayne in Batman: Arkham Origins.
  • Orochimaru offers Baki a pony in exchange for his services to the Sound, to which Baki replies: "I like the pink one." This episode predated My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic by about two years.
  • During the Chunin Exam, Naruto gets confused about what time period the series is supposed to be after the use of computers is displayed. In the sequel series, Boruto, there is a noticeable increase in the use of modern technology compared to the original series.
• Ho Yay: With Jiraiya and Orochimaru, surprisingly.
• Memetic Mutation:
  • "Son of a bitch! GRRRRRRRRRR!"
  • "A chicken! I'll name you Clucky!"
  • The "Gaara of the Funk" sequence that happens whenever Gaara mentions his name is popular.
  • “BOOBS?!”
• Misblamed: Contrary to popular belief, the quality of Naruto The Abridged Movie didn't get Vegeta3986 fired from Team Four Star. He left because he had gotten a teaching job in Japan, and he wasn't able to commit to schedule.
• Parody Displacement: Despite originally meant to be a parody of NTAS, Naruto: The Abridged Comedy Fandub Spoof Series Show gradually grown more popular than it over time.
• Tear Jerker: Masako's announcement that he will be leaving the series.
