• Spiritual Adaptation: The Tales from the Darkside episode "Seasons of Belief" has a similar basic premise, but far crueler circumstances. In it, a couple on Christmas Eve merely teases their children with the story of a humanoid monster named "The Grither" who flies from the cold north to kill anyone who speaks its name. The climax has the same outcome of the Grither turning out of be real, seemingly entirely on the faith the children have in its existence, as they watch it horribly reach into their house through the window and snaps their parents' necks. They're left too frightened to speak of what just happened, particularly in saying the creature's name.
