The Mystery Science Theater 3000 treatment provides examples of:

• Crosses the Line Twice: When the doctor peers into a room where he keeps his monster, a disgusting blubbering noise is heard and the doctor grimaces. Mike quips that he's watching "Dylan Thomas's last moments on Earth," in reference to the Welsh poet's death from combined heavy drinking and drug use.
• Genius Bonus: Probably unintentional, but Servo mentions Diane Arbus in a riff. ^note He messes up her first name, though. She pronounced it dee-ANN Eddie Carmel, who appeared in one of her most famous photographs (Jewish Giant, taken at Home with His Parents in the Bronx, NY, 1970), plays the monster in the closet.
• Harsher in Hindsight: A shot of a syringe is followed by Tom riffing, "Meanwhile, at Kurt Cobain's house." ^note For reference, this episode aired October 30, 1993 and Kurt Cobain died April 5, 1994.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: During the Training from Hell the 'Bots make Mike watch The Beast of Yucca Flats. Thirty-two episodes later, guess what movie Dr. Forrester sends them.
  • Making it even funnier is the fact that Beast causes Mike and the 'bots into a serious Sanity Slippage - and that would have been the second time they saw it.
  • Another movie from the same training Mike watched was Night of the Lepus. While the film was never featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000, Mike, Kevin and Bill would finally endure it about 20 years later for RiffTrax.
