YMMV / Mystery of the Wax Museum

Go To

  • Hype Backlash: Having been lost for many years, the memories of those who saw the film when it came out were naturally processed through the Nostalgia Filter, and House of Wax (1953) was seen as a lesser effort. Then a print finally came to light— and many of those fans found themselves re-evaluating it for the worse.
  • Values Dissonance: This chunk of dialogue hasn't aged well:
Detective: Can you give me a description of the person you saw?
Florence: Not a very good one, I guess. He wasn't like anything human. He hobbled and swayed like a monkey, and the face, from the glimpse of it I got in the light from the street, was like an African war mask.
Detective: You mean he was colored?note
