• Crazy Is Cool: Kosugi, one of the protagonist's closest friends and the president of her college drama club. The plays she writes for the club sound downright bizarre ("Planet of the Pro-Golfer Monkeys," to name just one example), but are said to be quite successful and to have won awards; she's also apparently a genius physicist and a martial artist skilled enough to turn the tables on and disarm a gun-wielding terrorist assailant. By Katsuragi's sequel, she's apparently become an Oscar-winning actress and is still just as odd a human being as ever.
• Ho Yay: Kenta looks up to all of his seniors, but his admiration for Kurosawa goes straight into mancrush territory, as other characters are quick to point out.
• Values Dissonance: In Katsuragi's sequel, Jurisdiction Friction makes emotions run high between Ishigami and Kate. During one particularly volatile argument, Ishigami slaps Kate across the face, and the modern Western woman (and highly trained law enforcement officer) does... nothing.
