- Character Perception Evolution: The Storm King was divisive here due to his first appearance outside promotional artwork being far more comical and affable than what fans expected, clashing with his otherwise intimidating design and demeanor. But these traits would carry over into The Movie where he would come off as a Stupid Evil Anti-Climax Boss compared to the comics where his Pragmatic Villainy; acting nice to his forces to keep them loyal, not wasting effort oppressing beyond what's needed to achieve his goals, destroying an Artifact of Doom that wasn't worth the drawbacks, made him stand out amongst the series villains and showed how he was such an effective warlord. Thus the comics take on him is now seen favorably for having the fun Love to Hate traits that made him as well-received as he was while also smart enough to be the legitimately threat he failed to come across in the movie proper.
- Harsher in Hindsight: The Storm King's Pragmatic Villainy streak and his Et Tu, Brute? reaction to Strife's Starscream moment here. In The Movie, The Storm King turns out to be similar— he seems to have forgotten all about said Pragmatic Villainy and ends up pulling a You Have Outlived Your Usefulness of his own against Tempest just For the Evulz.
- He's Just Hiding:
- Even though the Storm King threw him off his air ship while high in the air, many think Strife survived and is still plotting against the Storm King.
- Chummer, Capper's friend. Though his ship crashed outside of Klugetown, Tempest sees cat-like footprints leading away from the ship, indicating that he survived the initial crash. Whether he survived the desert is another question, but many fans think it's likely.
- Tainted by the Preview: The Storm King's appearance in the Issue #1 preview as a fourth wall-breaking, ridiculously friendly villain has alienated several readers who were expecting a character that matched his fearsome design.
