YMMV / My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic S9 E3 "Uprooted"

Go To

  • Everyone Is Jesus in Purgatory: The episode has been interpreted as a metaphor for the Brony fandom coping with the end of Friendship is Magic; everyone has their own ideas of how to keep the fandom alive, but the bonds they formed with each other are the true take-away from the show, and as long as the fans still express their love, they'll keep the spirit of the show alive.
    • Subsequently, some have also interpreted the Student Six as newcomers to the fandom, who were introduced to the show during the then recent Season Eight and feel left out that they didn’t have the same fond memories or experiences that the Mane 6, the princesses, or even the Pillars had before.
  • Fanfic Fuel:
    • Were the remainder of the Pillars called back to keep the Everfree Forest at bay for the duration the Tree of Harmony was destroyed? If so, how long have they been doing it and where were they this whole episode?
    • The Elements and Tree of Harmony being reformed into the Treehouse of Harmony right in the old Castle of the Two Sisters. Would fixing the Castle itself still be possible?
    • The reactions of the Pillars, Celestia, Luna and the rest of the Mane Six to the Treehouse of Harmony.
    • The interior of the Clubhouse of Harmony itself.
    • Basilisks exist in Equestria.
    • A non-Pony wonderbolt.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The discussion between the Student Six about how best to honor the Tree mirrors the discussions regarding the reconstruction of the Notre Dame cathedral, which was partially destroyed during a fire only a couple days after the episode's release.
  • Memetic Mutation: Those watching the premiere on the popular Brony Network stream had the misfortune of having the episode interrupted for them twice by the Emergency Broadcast System due to severe storms in Texas. Countless jokes have been made about this, from making fun of the low, distorted voice reading the warning, to suggesting that the Storm King attacked Texas to ruin the new episode for everyone. In at least one case, this timed with an event in the episode (Ocellus accidentally spilling water on Silverstream's art), making it more apt.
  • Narm: The show's use of crystal structures has been around for a long time, but many agree the Treehouse of Harmony just looks too gaudy to be impressed by. It doesn't help that, much like Twilight's Castle or the School of Friendship, it's obvious the Treehouse exists to sell toys.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • Despite being its creators and predecessor users respectively, the Pillars and the Royal Sisters were never even called by the Tree of Harmony to inform them that it is still hanging in there and salvageable instead of being Killed Off for Real.
    • The Tree of Harmony's roots being grown under and throughout the School of Friendship was never touched upon by the Young Six when Twilight said it was destroyed, which would have provided a counter-argument to its Disney Death.
    • The astral projection appearing in the epilogue being a messenger instead of the consciousness is a wasted chance for the Tree/Clubhouse to talk to the characters that aren't the Young Six.
